The Ezra LeMarpeh Association, founded by Rabbi A. E. Firer, provides assistance to the sick and needy.
Additional Medical Services
In cases where an additional medical opinion from abroad or within Israel is required regarding a patient's specific illness, the Association undertakes to provide various medical material including:
- Medical photographs
- Sample slides of tissue taken from the patient (biopsies on slides)
- Test results of a patient (heart echo, angiograms and other tests recorded on disk or other computerized magnetic material)
- Summary of the illness translated into the doctor's language
This activity is managed directly by the Association's secretary. He packages all the relevant material and arranges for a detailed follow up procedure for all the many cases
This service is made possible by a unique computer program developed especially for Ezra LaMarpeh by Mr. Eli Gordizer and his company My MDFILE, who donated the program to the Association.
This special technology enables the patient's digitized information such as X-Rays to be loaded onto a computerized network so that it may be viewed by a doctor at a remote location without degrading their quality and without the need of the doctor to download the material to his computer which saves his valuable time.
Since the Association began using this software, a doctor at the other end of the world can provide his opinion regarding the illness within minutes of receipt of the data, a fact which has already successfully helped save many lives.
HOW DOES ONE APPLY FOR THIS SERVICE ?
The applicant should contact the Association's secretary at telephone number 03-5777007/8 from Sunday to Thursday from14:30 until late at night and on Friday until 13:00, In the event of an emergency it is possible to call the main office of the Association at 03-5777000.
VIDEO CONFERENCING - INTERNATIONAL TELE-MEDICINE
The Ezra LeMarph Association operates a special video-conferencing service which allows consultations between a number of participants world-wide for the purpose of obtaining opinions from various experts regarding a patient’s condition. The uniqueness of this system allows the presentation of medical slides in real time without harming the quality or integrity of the data being transmitted and this is done while the doctors are located on both sides of the line and see one another as if they were all in the same room.
THE VIDEO CONFERENCE ALLOWS THE PRESENTATION OF A WIDE RANGE OF DATA INCUDING:
- Medical photos (M.R.I, CT, etc.)
- Documentation connected with medical tests, recorded on magnetic media such as disks (stents, bronchoscopes, etc.)
- External observations of the patient (speech, external appearance, external scars/defects, etc.)
PURPOSE OF THE SERVICE
The purpose of the Video-Conference service is to obtain additional medical opinions as quickly as possible and to prevent delays which on occasion can be critical with regard to the patient. An additional purpose of these conferences is to save the cost of travel for the family of the patient and other inconveniences associated with travel abroad to obtain the necessary additional opinions. Since the start of this service many patients have already been helped and in certain cases some unnecessary treatments have been avoided.

VISITING THE SICK - SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE
In order to enable the patient to continue living at home with his family, a situation that without a doubt greatly eases his/her ability to deal with the illness, the Association's volunteers create a virtual mini-hospital and instruct the family members on how to deal with the patient at home. In these cases, where the patient also needs treatment at home, the Association's volunteers often provide this after undergoing appropriate training in accordance with the instructions of the attending physician.

COORDINATION WITH NATIONAL INSURANCE
While Mr. Isaac Kabdiel, a great friend of the Association, served as manager of the Ramat Gan branch of the National Insurance organization, he promised Rav Firer that when he retired he would place his vast experience, gained over decades, at the disposal of the Association and he has kept that promise.
For many years Mr. Kabdiel has personally handled the cases of members of the general public who try to deal with the tangled bureaucracy, in order to guarantee their rights from the National Health, doing everything possible to ensure these claimants get what is due to them.
The service is initiated by means of a personal meeting in the most complicated cases or by means of a telephone consultation in simpler cases.
The service is performed in accordance with all the rules of the National Health Institute and, of course, at no charge.
HOW TO RECEIVE THIS SERVICE?
A telephone call must be made to the offices of the Association at 03-5777000 and ask for the secretary Ms.Rivka Bar. The caller should have all relevant documentation with him.
