CHILDREN LIVE - A SYSTEM FOR TREATING CHILDREN WITH CANCER

Children Live activities are coordinated with most of the Ontological departments in Israel and currently treats some 900 children every year. 60 dedicated volunteers serve as "big brothers/sisters" to the ailing children accompany at every step of the way with endless dedication.  The team offers the children and their families warmth, personal attention, support, encouragement and limitless love while attempting to realize their "heart's wishes."

These activities are coordinated by Rabbi Chaim Gitler. From the moment the sad news is received the family is not alone. Rabbi Firer supports them with medical advice and direction to the most appropriate department for treating the disease. Chaim and his volunteers accompany the family on a tour of this department and staff and then, after an "acclimation" period the sick child and his parents, in their "new home", start to get the attention they need – with love.
As a part of this activity, the Association organizes a large number of events that suit the children including prestigious dinners with performances by first rate entertainers, visits to IDF camps and other entertainment sites favored by children, including tours both in Israel and abroad, etc.
Twice a year vacation camps are organized in the Fatal hotel chain in Eilat. These vacation days include most of the attractions that this southern city offers its visitors. In addition small groups fly to a dream vacation in the Swiss Alps, in the Metropolitan hotel in Aruza owned by our dear friends Rabbi Mordecai Levin and his wife. In addition, there are special activities for the child to satisfy his/her heart's desire.

MEITAV- A SYSTEM FOR TREATING CHILDREN FIGHTING LIFE THREATENING DISEASES

This project is designed to provide a solution for families who have to deal with serious chronic diseases that plague the patient until his/her last day, such as genetic diseases - for example, hereditary dysautonomia and hereditary Mediterranean Malaria. Unfortunately, often more than one child from the same family suffers from these diseases making the pain and suffering that much more intense. The necessary inner strength of the parents and siblings where one or more is suffering from such a life threatening disease affects the unity of the entire family unit.
Rabbi Moshe David Rosenfeld has for many years coordinated the treatment for these families and provides them with hours and days of comfort in order to help enable them to continue the fight. He organizes, on behalf of the Association, vacation camps that suit the both the sick children as well as the rest of the family who are healthy. In addition, the families are entitled to certain treats and presents all year long and this is complementary to extensive medical treatment and unique equipment provided with the medical direction of Rabbi Firer and the wide range of attractive activities adapted to the limitations and abilities of the ailing child. Within the framework of these activities are included computers and films, large print children's books for children who are visually impaired, games and more.

IN MOTION- ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES

Even healthy children who suffer from serious physical disabilities caused by cerebral palsy or other physical problems that are not hereditary (for example a traffic accident) are entitled to the support of the Association under the direction of Rabbi Raphael Wolf and his sons, who work together with Rabbi Moshe David Rosenfeld. Twice a week the Association takes these children out for challenging outdoor activities. These activities are directed by trained leaders who know how to exercise the children in various activities appropriate for their physical disabilities.
These activities are undertaken in groups of 20-30 children and include: bicycle riding ( with supporting apparatus individually designed for each child), horse back riding, climbing with the aid of special ropes and a wide range of additional activities designed to strengthen the muscles and improve flexibility and enhance mobility. Special effort is made to create, as much as possible, homogeneous groups both physically and mentally in order that the children can enjoy the advantages of group activity.
In addition, twice a year, the Association organizes for these children an exciting week at a vacation village that includes a range of challenging activities designed to provide the children with magical moments.
Despite their serious physical limitations and the fact that a significant number of these children are bound to wheel chairs, when outdoors in nature their spirits soar with happiness as witnessed by their nonstop smiling faces.
The organizers of these vacation camps combine care and sensitivity so as to include lectures designed to support and strengthen the children without them sensing this, in order not to harm the self-image the organizers are working so hard to create. In this way they foster the feeling in these children that they are no different to other children, but only have a physical limitation.
