Winter is approaching fast, but Ezra Lemarpeh decided to keep the summer going. In collaboration with Nestle Ice Creams, Ezra Lemarpeh is warming up your winter with a selection of the company’s ice creams and popsicles, delivered straight to the special refrigerators we’ve set up around the wards.

The children at the pediatric oncology wards of Haddasah En Kerem in Jerualem and Rambam hospital in Haifa can now enjoy delicious ice cream around the clock. It is important to note that for children treated for cancer, ice cream is not only fun, but also helps them through their chemotherapy sessions, since cold food is soothes aches in their mouths. All we have left to say is – have a healthy winter, everybody!

Planting joy Planting joy

At the Children's Oncology Department at Tel Hashomer, an amazing and talented girl named Neta Aricha, only 12, was diagnosed with cancer. She began to undergo treatment and we are trying to make her time more pleasant. We decided to organize a campaign called the "T-shirt Smile" - a contest for creating a T-shirt that generates the most smiles. All her friends, including volunteers from Ezra Lemarpeh, bought T-shirts and printed them with ideas to make Netta and others smile...

The contest continued for three weeks and the shirts were displayed on Netta’s Facebook page. The shirt receiving the highest number of “Likes” awarded its creator with the chance to join Netta at an upscale restaurant sponsored by Ezra Lemarpeh. The contest ended on Lag B'Omer, and the lucky winner was Shai Zorea, a girl who is also undergoing treatment in the same department as Netta, which, together with the volunteers from Ezra Lemarpeh, worked to create a special smile inducing shirt! That definitely doubled the joy!!!

Dream Vacation in Eilat 2013 Dream Vacation in Eilat 2013

As part of Ezra Le’marpe’s “Children of Life” project headed by Rabbi Elimelech Firer, tens of children with cancer went on a dream vacation in Eilat, the children came together from all the hospitals in Israel for a one week vacation and a break from their trying treatments. The children stayed at the Fattal hotel chain's Magic Sunrise Hotel and enjoyed amazing hospitality!

The entire hotel staff was committed to helping the children and their chaperones catering to their every request, the children were accompanied by an experienced team of volunteers and by a special medical team trained for such trips. In addition to 5 daily meals, the children enjoyed all the attractions and sites in the area, whose owners also gladly helped to make the trip a successful one. The children enjoyed the underwater observatory, the oceanarium, the IMAX theater, the dolphin reef, a nighttime ride on a luxurious yacht, the pirates’ bay, paragliding, motorboats, paddle boats, jet skis, banana boats, raft boats, an SUV trek, the Kings City, ice skating, karaoke night and more… before leaving Eilat the children visited the Kfar Hashashuim toy store and were allowed to take whatever their hearts desired. We would like to note the great contribution of Mr. David Fattal, who contributes to helping the Ezra Le’marpe children, and especially the children of this particular group, throughout the year, as well as the Egged Company who donated buses, which accompanied the group for 24 hours and helped the trip go as planned. And, of course, the owners of the attractions and sites who put their hearts into helping these sick children.

Lights On for the Rambam Children Lights On for the Rambam Children

The pediatric oncology ward at Mayer-Rambam hospital looked especially festive as Ezra Lemarpeh observed the longtime tradition of a Hanukkah party for the children in the ward. Dozens of children crowded into the ward’s playroom, decorated in the spirit of the holiday, and ate the holiday’s delicacies. Ezra Lemarpeh volunteers brought the entertainment with them, in the form of clowns and comedians, while the music was left for the expert hands of Tal Kleiner, who had them all dancing to Hanukkah songs.

The children’s excitement peaked when the entire Maccabi Haifa team stepped in to join the holiday fun. Team supporter Guy lit the candles with the team members, followed by some holiday songs, photo-ops with the kids, and lots of Maccabi Haifa merchandise. The players joined Ezra Lemarpeh volunteers in a tour of the ward, and visited the bed-bound children in the isolation rooms, bringing them Hanukkah gifts courtesy of Ezra Lemarpeh. Ward chief Prof. Miriam Ben Harush thanked the Ezra Lemarpeh team and their chairman Rabbi Elimelech Firer, for their year-round help and support for the children.

Sick Children on Bikkur Holim (Visiting the Sick) Sick Children on Bikkur Holim (Visiting the Sick)

Eden isn’t even 16, but has undergone a lot in the past year, when she was diagnosed with cancer a second time, and with a more severe case. But Eden is very brave and will fight till she triumphs. Eden is beloved not only by her family, but also by the medical team, who are astounded by her will to survive. Since she became ill, Eden has been visited by the volunteers of Ezra Lemarpeh, who provide any help and support they can.

This past weekend, Eden had a surprise visit: when the volunteers arrived at her house. They were accompanied by several sick children from the Tel Hashomer and Hadassah En Kerem hospitals, who know Eden from the wards. The happy group went Kart racing in Talpiot, followed by a festive meal at Café Hillel. They returned home late in the evening, with a satisfied smile brought on by performing the mitzvah of bikkur holim (visiting the sick).
